Your sign and Your Body Parts:

Creating Improved Health

The concept of Medical Astrology is esoteric and has roots in Greek astrology, the practice is as old as the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates (Hippocratic Oath) used astrology in in practice, and said that only a fool would treat a patient without first consulting his horoscope. In Ancient Greece, the most civilized of contemporary cultures, nobody was in greater esteem than the astrologer.

Medical astrology has its roots in Greek astrology, though it fully bloomed in the Middle Ages. “Doctors all through the medieval era and Renaissance were master astrologers,” at least until 1666.

The planets and elements of the Zodiac had roles to play in medical astrology, but the signs of the Zodiac were integral to understanding how the human body functioned at the time.

Astrological signs are mapped onto the body from the head to the toes, with the first sign of the Zodiac (Aries) at the top and the last sign (Pisces) at the bottom. These astrological-anatomical connections are intended for extremely practical purposes when medical astrology was at its height. I believe the time has come to reintroduce Medical astrology into our world of natural healing demands.

A example of the use of medical astrology might be, for instance, if a doctor was helping a patient with colitis, they’d connect that condition to Virgo, since that sign rules the intestines. Then with the use of your chart to see what planet was in Virgo at the moment, as that would provide a baseline for healing. Mars, would indicate inflammation or aggravation in the intestines. (See list of body parts below. Once they’re sign and planet is determined I would be able to prescribe a specific acupuncture protocol and or medicinal herbals to benefit the patient.

An example to be clear, to clarify, just because you’re a Leo (which is believed to rule the heart and spine), that doesn’t mean you’re doomed to be afflicted with back pain for your entire life. More accurately, the parts of the body that your sign rules are simply points of emphasis — not necessarily illness. You could be Leo with a strong back and great cardio just as easily as you could be a Leo whose blood pressure could use some maintaining.

Contemporary medical astrologers aren’t as commonplace as they once were, but the practice hasn’t died out altogether. Medical astrology continues to interest, such disciplines as: acupuncturists (like myself) naturopaths, practitioners of holistic medicine, and even the rare MD. But even if you aren’t a medical practitioner (or astrologer, for that matter), you can still find meaning in exploring medical astrology for yourself.

Another example would be Libra, represented by the scales of justice and balance, rules the kidneys, the organs that maintain the balance of fluids and electrolytes in our bodies. Or, consider the connection between the hands and their ruler, Gemini — have you ever met a Gem who doesn’t talk with their hands when they’re excited? As you learn and reflect on your sign’s anatomical association, you may discover that that body part really does factor into your life in some subtle way. I can help you do just that.

Paracelsus, the most celebrated doctor of the 15th Century, said that no doctor should prescribe a remedy without checking the position of the moon and the planets in his clients chart. It was he, who held that the five planets and two luminaries each governed a certain area of the body. The Sun: the heart; Jupiter the liver; Moon the brain; Mars the bile; Venus the Urogenital tract.

What excited me is that it’s ancient practice parallels that of Traditional Chinese Medicine in many ways, not to mention essential oils. Medical astrology predates the stars defining and characterizing personalities. Don’t be surprised if I ask for birth details and please, if this is of interest to you and your healing, ask me to utilize your horoscope.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is Planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
A time to get and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate, a time of war, and a time of peace.
